Library Project

Edaya’s library program deploys books and activities as main tools to encourage children to read, equip them with life skills and build their personal, learning and thinking skills. Our activities are designed in an interactive manner that aim to bring books to life. As well as cultivate the habit of reading, and portray the importance of books as a source of education as well as means for personal development

Within this space, we hope to build an environment that develops children’s imaginations. We wish to empower children, with freedom to engage, share, ask – and receive. We prioritize the individuality of the child, giving children not only knowledge but also choice. Going beyond classroom textbooks, children are able to navigate through varying books and choose to learn about that which excites them. Through an updated collection of books and interactive learning activities, we believe this library concept may enhance children’s self-development, knowledge and creativity. Through our program, we promote life-learning, practical skills, self–agency and a communicative culture.

Our library program objectives are:

Shams Library: Kayany Foundation School-Bekaa, Lebanon

November 8th, 2016 marked the inauguration of “Shams Library”, a library for Syrian refugee children in the Bekaa Valley, Lebanon. The project is the fruit of a three party collaboration between Edaya, American University of Beirut (AUB) Faculty of Engineering and Architecture and Kayany Foundation school - where the library is built in Majdaal Anjar. The library project aims to foster an exciting learning environment and a free space for children to express and discover themselves through a well-crafted library program designed and run by Edaya. The beautifully unique and serene sunlit library unit- generously funded, designed and built by AUB Faculty of Engineering and Architecture- plays an integral role in creating a positive attitude towards reading. The library creates a pleasant and delightful atmosphere for the children to grow and nurture a new love for books and reading.

The Big Book: Jusoor Syrian Refugee School- Beirut, Lebanon

In June 2014 our first Big Book library was introduced at Jusoor's Syrian Refugee School in Beirut Kaskas. Because of the limited space, the Big book was an innovative and fun solution that engaged the kids and created a fun learning environment. The kids looked forward to seeing the big book wheeling into the classroom.
